this may sound "CORNY" to you....

I have found the most greatest way to put up corn! Shuck & slik it, place large cobbs on the lower rack & smaller cobbs on the top rack of your.....(drumroll) DISHWASHER!!!! Hit the regular cycle button, when the cycle is complete open the door to racks completely cool. Just wonderful I tell you! WON-DER-FUL!

    1. Totally unnecessary. Just shuck the corn of its leaves and silk. Wrap twice in plastic wrap and then in foil. Freeze immediately. No need for “blanching” if this is what you’re trying to do. Wrap in packs of 4. Take frozen corn, drop in boiling water for 7 minutes and it’s perfectly sweet and fresh. Grew up on a little farm, did this every year- still alive and my corn doesn’t taste like dish soap!

      P.S. lighten up you’ll enjoy life a lot more. The way we all enjoyed seeing someone put corn in their dishwasher; we don’t care how you freeze yours on the cob therefore take more time and work when it comes dinner time… unlike this inventive, smart persons way of doing things.

    3. Lmao. Jet Dry doesn’t get sprayed on the dishes during the drying cycle. It’s sprayed on during the rinse cycle to “AID” in the drying process. So that’s a legitimate question for people who clean their corn in the dishwasher. What kind of backwoods idiot would put corn on the cob in the dishwasher? And I don’t care if your stove is broken. What about using the grill.

  7. I didn’t see any response to question about the jet dry solution that most people use in their dishwasher. How do you keep it from dispensing during the rinse cycle?

I've done the same trick by wrapping preseasoned salmon wrapped in aluminum foil, but I before I put the foiled wrapped salmon in the dishwasher, I let it go through the wash cycle first, then as soon as it turns to the dry cycle I set the seasoned wrapped salmon on the top rack, and after drying cycle is over, your salmon is the most tender salmon you've ever tasted.

    1. Sounds kind of like Cincinnati Chicken. You wrap a chicken in tinfoil in Pittsburgh, put it on the intake manifold of your car, and drive to Cincinnati. Cooked perfectly.

  16. The natural enzymes in corn need to be inactivated before freezing to prevent both loss of color and nutrients, and flavor and texture changes. These enzymes are inactivated by a hot blanch treatment. The chilling process, cooling it immediately after blanching in ice water, prevents the corn from becoming mushy due to overcooking the starch. To blanch, put several ears of corn into a gallon of boiling water. Blanching time starts when the water returns to a boil. Blanch small ears for 7 minutes, medium ears for 9 minutes and large ears for 11 minutes. This is a quality issue, not a safety issue.

    The dishwasher water does not reach 212 degrees, which is boiling point. And the rinse aid in the dishwasher is released during the final rinse, so stopping the dishwasher before the drying cycle is not acceptable. This is a safety issue. Dishwashers are not meant to cook or prep food. Please do your research on these kinds of issues. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

  17. Honey you hit the nail on the head about preserving food!!! Theres guidelines to go by for safety and quality. And putting it in the dishwasher isn’t one of them. That’s just plain disgusting 🤮. Dirty, nasty and germy dishes are washed in them and I’m sure that no matter what you do you’re not going to get it all out of there.

  18. Why would anyone think this is a good idea - the residual amount of soap is enough to make me sick! Have you even thought about the bacteria in the drainage system of a dish washer ?
